1st Annual Winter Sports Festival

When: February 22 – 24, 2019

Location: Powderhorn Mountain Resort’s bottom parking lot (Mesa, CO)

What: Winter Sports Festival provides the opportunity to demo the latest winter endurance sport gear and push yourselves with the races throughout the weekend, including cross country ski races, MADhorn Fat Bike Race, snowshoe 5k run race, and a winter-athlon (3 sports completed triathlon style) event!

Feb. 22, 2018 (Friday) - Winter Sport Demos and Night Snowshoe Race

Day Details: Get off work early on Friday to demo and check out the latest winter endurance sport gear from vendors on the newly formed Odin Sports Center groomed trails & some of Powderhorn’s designated uphill routes:

  • Loki Gear – Transformative winter clothing & gear
  • Odin Sports Center – Snowshoes & XC skis
  • Bicycle Outfitters – Fat Bike demos
  • Discount Bicycle Warehouse – Bike maintenance service
  • Pending:
    • Fisher -  XC skis & fat bikes
    • Grand Mesa Nordic Council (GMNC) – Winter non-profit organization maintaining trails on the top of the Mesa & offering races and clinics throughout the winter.

 

Schedule (open to public unless stated otherwise):

  • 9:00am-1:00pm: Vendor Village set up time in venue (private)
  • 1:00pm-5:00pm: Winter Sport Demos provided by various vendors
    • Registration & Packet Pickup open.
    • PLEASE DO NOT RIDE BIKES ON THE SKI SLOPES – it’s not designated as a fat bike resort and does not have the liability to cover it unless it’s a special event.
  • 5:00pm-7:00pm: Ziggy Stardusk Snowshoe 2.5k & 5k Races
    • Awards followed closely after last finisher @ Odin Sports Center.

Feb. 23, 2018 (Saturday) - Winter Sport Demos, XC Ski Race, and MADhorn Fat Bike Race

Event Details: Winter fanatics will explore the continuously expanding brand new trail network being developed and managed by Odin Sports Center located below the bottom parking lot of Powderhorn. In the past, these trails were used primarily for the Webe Race motorcycle races. Now there are wide paths packed by snowmobiles / groomers by Odin Sports Center for nordic skiing, fat biking, and snowshoeing! 

Course Stats: To be released Feb. 15. Come, play, and explore the trails anytime – visits outside the WSF are subject to daily fees by OSC.

Schedule (open to public unless stated otherwise):

  • 7:00am-12:00pm – Late Registration / Packet Pickup open ($10 increase for day of)
  • 8:00am-5:00pm: Demos open – Odin Sports Center trails limited to race participation. Portion of venue and small portion of trails will be available for additional demo experience. Best demo experience will be Friday with trails being wide open to testing.
    • PLEASE DO NOT RIDE BIKES ON THE SKI SLOPES – it’s not designated as a fat bike resort and does not have the liability to cover it unless it’s a special event.
  • 8:00am – Odin Sports Center 5k XC Skate Ski Race
  • 9:15am - Barneloppet Kids XC Skate Ski Race
  • 10:30am - MADhorn Fat Bike Race (10k – 4 laps of 2.5k)
  • 12:00pm: Awards / Prize Drawing @ Odin Sports Center
    • Continue demos all afternoon!

Feb. 24, 2018 (Sunday) – MAD Odin Winter-athlon

Course Details: 3 sports will be completed “triathlon style” as follows:

1)      Start in Odin Sports Center area and navigate a rolling ski tour route - recommend at least skis with metal edging, i.e. skimo skis with skins and leaving it on the whole time.

2)      Transition to fat bikes.

3)      Complete approx. 5km fat bike route/loops in the Odin trails.

4)      Transition to snowshoes

5)      Complete 5 km snowshoe route/loops again in the Odin trails.

Solo and Team options available. We encourage you to participate in the day prior and recruit your teammates then! Sign up early to lock in the current price and finalize your teams Saturday evening during/after the awards ceremony.  **Day of registration not available for Odin MADness Winter-athlon – must pick up either Friday or Saturday!!! Saturday evening pickup will be subjected to $10 increase.**

------------------ REFUND / CHANGES / TRANSFER / CANCELLATION POLICY --------------

REFUNDS: Refunds will only be issued in the event the race is cancelled. If the race is cancelled more than 30 days before the race, all entrants will receive a full refund of their entry fee. Refunds for events cancelled fewer than 30 days before the race may be less than the full entry fee paid, or may include an entry credit as part of the refund. Transfers of entry to another MAD Racing event or another athlete will be allowed as listed below. Online processing fees cannot be refunded.

TRANSFER ENTRY TO ANOTHER EVENT: You may request a cancellation of your entry and receive a redemption code for 75 percent your entry fee. You may use this redemption code toward your entry into another MAD Racing event. Your cancellation request must come no later than 30 days before the event, or before the event sells out, whichever comes first. You will have one year from the race date to redeem your credit. Online processing fees, charitable donations, license fees, or other items paid for during the registration process will be forfeited. Online processing fees may apply to the balance due with the transfer.

SERIES ENTRIES: If you have entered a series, you may not transfer individual series events to another athlete. Please contact us with questions regarding transfers of a portion of your series entry.

TRANSFER ENTRY TO ANOTHER ATHLETE / CHANGE CATEGORIES: You may transfer your entry to another athlete or change your category until 10 days before the event for a $20 fee. No transfers between athletes will be allowed in the final 9 days before the event. All transfers of online entries must be processed online before the transfer deadline. Items the original entrant may have paid for, such as license fees, donations, etc. will not be transferred. Depending on the date of the transfer, option to select a new shirt size may not be available. Online processing fees may apply to the balance due with the transfer.

UNAUTHORIZED TRANSFER OF YOUR ENTRY FEE will result in disqualification/removal from the event, and restrictions for all parties involved from participating in future MAD Racing and affiliated sanctioned events.

EVENT MODIFICATIONS: We reserve the right to alter or shorten the course for safety reasons including weather or other unforeseen circumstances. No refunds will be issued for alterations of the planned route, including the cancellation of a portion of the event (for example, cancellation of the swim in the event of lightning), or if the race is halted mid-race by weather or other circumstances.

CANCELLATION POLICY: If an event is cancelled more than 30 days prior to the scheduled date, a full refund of the registration fee (excluding processing fees) will be given to each entrant. If an event is canceled fewer than 30 days prior to the event, the refund amount may be less than the registration fee paid, or may be a partial credit for a future event, as determined by the race organizer. If an event is postponed, all entries will be transferred to the new date.
